Consumers Boost Intake of Plant-Based Products

According to new research from 1010data, consumers are beginning to increase their online search and purchases for plant-based alternatives ranging from food, supplements and drinks to personal care and beauty products.

Of all the online sales, plant-based protein powder made up 78% of the total. Furthermore, the searches for ‘plant-based’ in online retail platforms tripled from March 2016 to July 2017 showing strong consumer acceptance for vegan alternatives.

Emma Cattell, research and development nutritionist at Cambridge Commodities said: “Vegan proteins have become increasingly popular over the years with key trends emerging such as clean eating, raw and paleo combined with the growing awareness of superfoods.

“Vegan proteins are clean label, often allergen free and easily digestible due to their fibre content. In addition to this, plant protein sources can provide a full profile of amino acids and omega 3 fatty acids.”
