We are pleased to announce that Cambridge Commodities passed its annual ISO14001 environmental audit.
The ISO14001 certification is an important accreditation to ensure that we stay up-to-date with the latest environmental legislation. This includes reducing wastage by recycling and reusing where we can, lowering our carbon footprint and keeping up-to-date with our environmental impact. The ISO14001 certificate assures customers that we will add value and support to their own environmental policies.
Lucia Valle, quality specialist at Cambridge Commodities said: “In our environmental policy we have described the objectives to be achieved by the company which includes reducing energy consumption and good recycling practices. To meet these goals, we need everyone’s cooperation across the business meaning that every detail counts, from recycling properly, to minimising energy waste by turning computers off overnight.”
“We are also looking to develop new projects to be more environmentally friendly to benefit the local community.” Lucia added.
Our Environmental Considerations
In addition to the ISO14001 certificate, we recycle the following across our site:
All suitable kitchen and product waste is sent for anaerobic digestion, taking us closer towards sending 0% waste to landfill.
In May 2015 we moved into new premises which were designed to be environmentally friendly by minimising the energy required to run the building. Key aspects include:
A 125kw solar panel system is situated on the roof of the building. The solar panels will supply approximately half of the building’s annual energy consumption, saving an estimated 55,370kgs of CO2 emissions annually. This equates to a saving of around 23,753 litres of petrol.
Natural lighting in the warehouse combined with energy-saving LED sensor-activated lighting reduces energy usage.
