Also known as Yellow Gentian and Gentiana lutea L. with Stemless Gentian and English or Field Gentian varieties.
Gentian can be found in mountainous areas of Europe, and is yellowish-brown or brown in colour. The taste is sweet, then bitter, and the odour characteristic. The root and rhizome are used medicinally, and contain iridoids, xanthones, alkaloids, phenolic acids, and traces of sugar and oil.
