Green coffee extract is a popular ingredient for products designed to assist with the modulation of body fat.

The product is extracted from the seeds of Coffee Robusta L. Green coffee beans are simply unroasted coffee beans. Unlike roasted coffee beans, green coffee beans retain high amounts of a substance called Chorogenic Acid; Chlorogenic acid would otherwise be destroyed as part of the roasting process however the green beans retain the compound. Following numerous animal studies, chlorogenic acid is believed to help with the reduction of body weight, the amount of fat absorbed from the diet, and the amount of fat stored in the liver.

It has also been suggested to improve the function of adiponectin which is an important fat burning hormone. Chlorogenic acid has been demonstrated to improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels in rats which is an important risk fact for heart disease. The data produced from animal studies has been supported by numerous human trials which demonstrated a positive correlation towards green coffee consumption and loss of body fat, greater than that demonstrated by roasted coffee consumption.

Cambridge Commodities supplies green coffee extract with a minimum chlogogenic acid of 50%; the product also has a maximum content of caffeine of 2%. It’s believed that caffeine also has some role in the observed metabolism increasing effects and it has been hypothesised that they work synergistically to reduce the accumulation of body fat. Green coffee bean extract would be an ideal addition to products designed to increase the metabolism and aid the reduction of excess body fat.
